In December 2010 severe floods from the Gascoyne River destroyed the historic Junction Hotel and severely damaged the adjacent service station, shop and caravan park.
The floods left the town of Gascoyne Junction without much needed social and retail infrastructure. This loss of amenities had a major impact on residents and tourists visiting the region.
The Shire has recently finished building The new Tourism Precinct to benefit the local community, tourists and visitors. The precinct comprises of:
- Tavern with a restaurant
- Great selection of Meals & Beverages
- Caravan Park and camping grounds
- 24 hour fuel facility
- Manager’s residence
- Roadhouse including convenience store
- Staff accommodation
Since the Opening of the new Tourism Precinct in June 2014 the Precinct has recieved great compliments. The Locals have been enjoying their new facilities/ meeting hub and are very proud of their new modern facility.
