Road Closures: Flood Damage to Roads Update

Published on Tuesday, 1 June 2021 at 4:18:34 PM

Our road crews have been trying to inspect the roads and have now completed a brief inspection this morning.  The flood damage to our road network after our initial inspections is more significant than first thought.  As a result there will be a further delay in reopening our road network.

At this point the priority is on the Carnarvon Mullewa Road, Dalgety Landor Road, Landor Meekatharra and Landor Mt Augustus Road.  It will take up to six days to complete works on this 320km of road from when the evidence is collected.  At a present damage in the order of $15million is estimated.

We would like to thank those locals and visitors who have respected the road closures.  Whilst frustrating to have to lose days out of your well planned trip and reschedule ongoing travel arrangements and appointments, it does reduce the overall damage and closure of our road network which is critical to our local community but also to those visiting the beautiful National Parks within our Shire in the long term.  We are working as quickly as we can following the necessary steps and working with mother nature to get you on the road again.

Video:  Our works crew undertook a road inspection of the Carnarvon Mullewa Road this morning.  Unfortunately this is what happens when people choose to ignore the road closures and drive on wet roads.
