Starting with the Solar Eclipse Event on 20 April 2023, and finishing with the Coral Coast Helicopters Kickstarter's GasDash join us for 11 days of fun Under Gascoyne Skies.
Solar Eclipse Community Viewing Party

Gascoyne Junction will experience 90% coverage when the sun, moon and Earth align at approximately 11.27am on Thursday April 20, 2023. For those who are out enjoying our beautiful Kennedy Range you can expect to experience just over 92% coverage.
In the Junction join us at the Two Rivers Memorial Park from 10.30am to 12.30pm as we begin to experience the build up to the eclipse as the moon passes between the Sun and Earth. The feeling of full darkness will only happen for around a minute as the moon then continues allowing the sun to shine through again.
The Shire will be providing a free sausage sizzle, so bring along your chairs or picnic blanket and we will experience. We will have music playing, and interviews explaining what a solar eclipse is and what to expect.
Shire residents will receive a set of Solar Eclipse glasses for the event. Glasses will also be available to purchase from the Gascoyne Junction Community Resource & Visitor Information Centre and on the day at the event.
Mucky Duck Band Family Bush Dance
Join
us for a night of traditional bush dances by the
Mucky Duck Bush Band. Starting from 5pm and concluding at 9pm, gather with family and friends for a night of laughs and good old fashioned fun at the Gascoyne Junction Pavilion.
This event will be starting from 5pm with the first round of dancing commences with the Mucky Duck Band who will teach you the moves so that you can get down and groove.
6pm: Learn about the night skies from the team at Astrotourism WA and Perth Observatory while you rest your feet and get ready for the next round of dancing. From 6.30pm onwards the team will have their telescopes pointed to the night sky ready for you to spot a planet, a nebula and the stars.
6.30pm: Round Two on the dance floor. The Mucky Duck Band will get you back out on the dance floor. Grab your partner….
7.30pm: Whilst taking another well earnt rest learn from our visiting Astrophotographer how to take photos of the Night Sky. Bring your camera along on the night and he will share tips and tricks with you. There will be the opportunity to attach your camera to a telescope and take your own picture of the night sky.
8.00pm: It’s back to the dance floor for one final fling.

Solar Eclipse Discovery Tour - Dark Sky Viewing & Astrophotography Workshop

Gascoyne Junction is surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and boasts stunning clear night skies for stargazing and astrophotography. While in the region, explore Mount Augustus, the largest rock on Earth (twice the size of Uluru) and discover the rich wildlife, many canyons and welcoming vibe of Gascoyne Junction. This stargazing event includes seeing live, deep sky images with WA Astrophotographer Roger Groom.
6:30pm - Welcome
6:45pm - Eclipse Discovery Tour Presentation
- Learn about the Total Solar Eclipse
- Discover why Western Australia is a world-class dark sky tourism destination
- Find out all about WA's amazing space science projects
- Bring along your DSLR or Mirrorless camera and a tripod and have a go at some astrophotography. WA Astrophotographer Roger Groom, will be there to help you take wide-field and nightscape images through your camera on your tripod, and for a lucky few put your camera onto Roger’s telescope to capture some awesome deep sky images!
- Roger will be set up alongside the viewing area, enabling you to both take part in the viewing and learn astrophotography. Come and go as you try your astrophotography or need some more assistance from Roger.
7:30pm - Spectacular green laser pointer tour of Southern Hemisphere constellations
7:45pm - Viewing through telescopes. See the Milky Way, Southern Cross, the Magellanic Clouds, Star Clusters and more. Plus, join WA Astro-photographer, Roger Groom, with his telescope that will be setup for deep sky imaging. See live, deep sky images, and if you have your camera, Roger will help you attach it to the telescope to take your very own deep sky image.

Stargazing & Astro Tour with Wooramulla Eco Cultural Journeys

Join Rennee from Wooramulla Eco Cultural Journeys for an intimate gathering (this ticketed event has limited capacity) to view Gascoyne Junction night skies. During this tour you will learn about stargazing spots and Yinggarda Dreaming stories of the night sky.

ANZAC Day

This year our ANZAC Day service will be a little different. The service itself will be held at the War Memorial at the Two Rivers Memorial Park now that the construction works are finished. It will be wonderful to use this purpose-built space again in 2023. To mark the occasion,we have the Kelmscott Pinjarra 10th Light Horse Memorial Troop bringing two of their members to town to lead a march in Gascoyne Junction. Anyone is welcome to join the march. We are asking that those wanting to participate meet at the CRC at 10.30am with the march commencing at 10.45am down Gregory Street to the Memorial ready for the service to begin at 11am. At the conclusion of the service light refreshments will be served at the Gascoyne Junction Pub and Tourist Park. All are welcome.
2023 Coral Coast Helicopters Kickstarters GasDash & Live Music at the Junction Pub
The Kickstarters Gascoyne Dash is known as a genuine desert race, it is one of the toughest challenge across some of the harshest and remote country in Australia. Situated between the seaside town of Carnarvon and Gascoyne Junction WA - where the desert meets the sea. The Dash is an annual motorsport event that pits car against car and bike against bike and then the quickest of each against each other to determine who will be crowned the "King of the River".

Gascoyne Junction is the finish line for racing on Saturday. Watch as the competitors race into town. On Sunday morning, races begin departing for their dash back to Carnarvon. Find a spot along the route to watch all the action, or on the finish line in the Junction.
Saturday night at the Gascoyne Junction Pub and Tourist Park will have you enjoying live music at this FREE event. Enjoy a great feed of #junctionpubgrub and settle yourself inside in air conditioned comfort or enjoy the outside dining and beer garden area with green lawns as the night is filled with music from Johnny David Music.
